First, Arteasy Nigeria prays that everyone infected and affected directly by Coronavirus be made whole and healthy again.

In times like this, it is important that while praying you also learn to stay healthy by making hygiene a priority. And staying up to date on relevant information that can provide you with knowledge on protecting yourself and your family.

It is important that you stay hygienic and according to WHO, the best way to protect yourself against COVID-19 is to wash your hands frequently.

The first thing you should do in protecting yourself, family, and friends is to safeguard them from fake news, the media, or individuals spreading lies, myths, and fear. This is why we advise that you only read from https://www.who.int/ and www.ncdc.gov.ng for information, training, updates, and situation reports of COVID-19 around the world.

Avoid unverified messages circulating online, especially WhatsApp and Facebook. This will help you keep everyone off the zone of stir-crazy due to the confinement.

As gathered from the  World Health Organization: myth busters section, the following are “myths” not true as spread concerning covid-19:

COVID-19 cannot be transmitted in hot and humid areas.

This is one of the myths WHO has identified. According to the World Health Organization, COVID-19 can be transmitted in every area and climate. So, every human should protect themselves, especially by always cleaning their hands.

Taking a hot bath protects you from the disease.

This is another lie that you should not support by sharing on social media or in any way possible. Frequently wash your hands and that’s helpful information you can share as Bathing with extremely hot water can harm you. Your body temperature remains 36.5°C to 37°C no matter how hot your bathing water is. So, bathing with hot water doesn’t do “nada (anything)” to protect you from the virus.

Coronavirus is transmitted by mosquitoes.

That is another myth as Coronavirus disease cannot be transmitted by mosquitoes. COVID-19 is a disease you can contact majorly via droplets from an infected person coughs, sneezes, nose discharge or saliva. So, as much as you can, be wise to stay 3 feet away from coughing or sneezing people.

Hand dryers are part of protective measures.

This is false as no hand dryer can be effective in killing COVID-19. Based on findings and observation by experts, cleaning your nose with saline or eating garlic doesn’t protect you against Coronavirus disease.

Although, saline helps recover from the cold and garlic has great health benefits as it has antimicrobial features. But no research has proven that those two will protect anyone young or old from Coronavirus disease. Additionally, antibiotics are not effective against Coronavirus disease since it only works against bacterias and not viruses.

So, avoid treating Coronavirus disease with any of those or strongly depending on them as protective measures so as not to further harm your health in ways you might not foresee.

In your attempts to keep yourself safe, avoid ultraviolet disinfection lambs on your hands, skin or any part of your body as it can harm your skin.

Indeed Alcohol and chlorine can be effective in protecting your clothes and effective against mucous membranes. But you should ensure that the alcohol and chlorine used is recommended by medical experts. Also, understand the fact that alcohol and chlorine are not effective against COVID-19 when it has entered your body system.

So as much as possible, frequently clean your hands and maintain a 1m distance from people who are coughing or sneezing. Social distancing is another very popular protective measure people have been encouraged to take which seems to be very effective too.
