Below are some of the ways you can avoid distractions in your creative flow:

Day Planning.

A professional artist knows this and if you have the desire to become one someday you also need to understand that fact. It is important to make a program of how each day would go. Especially when your art studio is in your home.

However, when making a schedule for your day, ensure that you create time for art/to work first. Why? Well, it gives you an idea of how much time you have left to plan with. In planning your schedule, it is important to have an idea of how much time it normally should take you to create, write, design… Then add one or two hours.

Mental Alertness.

One thing is not to be rigid with your daily creative plans. For example, art is a creative process. You can get the inspiration to paint, sculpt, draw, etc at a time you have not planned for that day which is why you would need mental alertness.

At a time you did not plan but have that high urge to paint, you must be able to overcome any form of distraction. One of the ways you can mentally prepare your mind to create at a time you did not plan is by reading out a quote. Or making positive affirmations about yourself for at least 10minutes while the remaining 15mins is used to make quick, sensible decisions about the inspiration you have gotten. Including organizing your thoughts about it. Most classic arts were made that way.

Moreover, another way to get your mind prepared is to get it to be calm first and [fully] programmed in that creative mindset zone. That is the self-assurance that you will create something great and the day won’t be wasted. Always take 15mins to prepare your mind for quick thinking and the art-creating task ahead.

Overall, how prepared your mind is before creating as a creative determines how much you would do for that day.

Create time for your creativity based on how long you normally create art not based on how long your mentor does. Unless the number of hours they take is the normal length expected. Yeah, discipline and challenge are important which is why you might want to stick with your art mentors or generally agreed on the length of time but what works for you is also important.

It is important to say that while having art mentors is a great thing, you need to observe yourself and identify what works for you because it only harms your creativity when using the style your art mentors use in avoiding interruption in their creative flow if none of it works or works well for you.
