Things to keep up your creative energy while working

How much you can do in your creative space daily is determined by the things you do before entering your creative space. To protect your creative energy, you should not enter the studio and begin creating if you are not adequately prepared for the coming creative responsibilities.

This article shares four things you must do to keep up that creative energy. Creative energy is the level of creativity available to you at the time for usage but if your mind is distracted more than it is concentrated on the work at hand, you risk losing that creativity juice.

Therefore, to avoid such fate when in the studio, it is important to do the following:

Fill your stomach.

Definitely, not saying eat or drink so much that you can not move around in your workplace. It means do not enter your creative space to create on an empty stomach. Creative energy feeds on fuel from what you eat or the fluids you drink. How do you concentrate if you are weak from hunger? How much creative energy can you draw from if you are weak?

However, in filling your stomach, be careful not to eat or drinking something that would eventually require you to use the toilet often. If you don’t want to eat before entering your creative workplace, ensure that you always have a bottle of [pure] water handy.

If you are going to be staying in your creative space for so long or when you realize you have been there for more than you are used to, take breaks. Don’t strain yourself. This is a way to avoid anxiety or stress that could eventually hamper you from completing that project.

Be in The Present.

Avoid distractions. They drain creative energy faster than you think. Because your mind is there and not where it should be at that moment. Sometimes creative energy is hard to retain when you are rushing to do more than one project at a go.

Ensure you clear your creative workspace and its surrounding from everything that can affect your creative energy.

To clear all distractions, you could play music from a headset; this still works well in combating distractions. Or using earplugs that block the distraction out totally. What works for you to create excellently might be closing your windows (but consider sufficient ventilation) against playing loud music that some creatives prefer because it helps them stay active at the moment.

Usually, your mentor is probably someone who enjoys playing loud music while creating. There are people who watch TV but that does not mean it would help you create better- as much as your talent capacity should. Moreover, the idea is not to be like your mentor but use their knowledge, experience, understanding as a guide to better discover yourself, what you can, and how far you can do in the creative community.

Know when to take a break or wrap up for each creative session.

It is a great skill to be sensitive enough with your creativity that you know when you should stop for the day or take a break.

There will be no creative energy to use if you hardly rest. The passion sometimes drives you hard that you forget to eat, sleep, or eat. But still, discipline is one of the things that makes you a professional.

Working at a moderate pace can be unexciting and make you come across as lazy. Yet, working outrageously is not good every time.

One of the ways to know when to take a break or wrap up for the day is to evaluate the quality and quantity of work you have done so far and how much time you have spent. This is to guide you against ending for the day when you have not covered much.

Furthermore, you can set a daily limit for yourself as regards time to use in the studio and what you want to be done for that day.

However, knowing when to stop or take a break helps you avoid stress which can lead to creative blocks. If you are not watchful and become excessively immersed in what you are creating, you end up unintentionally stressing your body, emotion, mind, and soul.

Store up art tools and materials.

The last thing you want is to discover that your acrylic paint is exhausted. Or your paintbrush is damaged while in the middle of creating something wonderful. It is important at the end of each day or time spent in your studio to always check your art supplies: canvas, spray paints, etc.
